Pay Reduction Announcement

The Oklahoma Teacher’s Retirement System adopted a new rule that went into effect on July 1, 2013 in regard to years of service.  A staff member must serve a full school year in order to get a full year of retirement credit.  Prior to 2013, if you worked a minimum of 120 days then it would count as one full year of service, but this rule was changed with the new rule going into effect on July 1, 2013.   Now, if an employee has any day not paid, that day does not count toward a full year of service for retirement.  Thus, for example, a teacher who took a week of unpaid personal, FMLA, etc. leave would be reduced a week of service and would get 97.22% credit for a 180-day school year.    Employees are encouraged to go to the OTRS website,  http://www.ok.gov/TRS/, for additional information or to contact them at 405-521-2387, 1-887-738-6365 or mail@trs.state.ok.us for answers to questions specific to retirement.
