Counseling Center
The Guidance and Counseling Program at Glenpool Elementary School provides a quality educational opportunity for all students which:
Promotes social, emotional, and personal growth at each stage of development.
Aids in the development of decision-making, problem-solving, and coping skills.
Helps with transitions and changes.
Offers crisis intervention and remediation services.
Provides opportunities to learn and practice social skills in the classroom and small group settings.
Provides services for children with special needs.
Supports students who are new to the school.
Provides support for school related issues and concerns interfering with school progress.
Provides extra practice to support skills taught in the classroom guidance program.
School counselors meet with individual and small groups to address various topics. Students may self refer, or be referred by parents, teachers, or other staff members.
The classroom guidance components allow us to meet with each class once monthly. Classroom lessons address age appropriate, targeted areas of student development and are supported by activities that are conducted on a planned basis. Topics may include, but are not limited to:
Bullying
Respect
Decision making
Conflict resolution
Friendship skills
Personal safety
Problem-solving skills
Drug Awareness/Making Healthy Choices
The school counselors serve as a resource; working with parents, teachers, and administrators to support our students.
Conferences with parents and staff to promote a positive learning experience for students.
Provides information, materials, and referral assistance as needed.
Gains understanding of students through observation.
Participates in special education meetings, initial evaluations, and testing.
